TIPS ON WORSHIP LEADING

July 13, 2009

Introduction

Many people think that you need talent before you can go up the stage and lead worship. But what I believe in is that everyone can be a worship leader. Anyone can actually lead worship when he wants to. But the problem is that not everybody knows how to lead worship effectively.

Now, our director gave me a job to share with you some tips on how to lead worship effectively. Honestly speaking, I am not a person who always leads worship. But I know a lot of effective worship leaders, and I’ve seen them a million times lead different congregations into worship.

The tips that I’ll be sharing to you will be based on my experiences and the observations I’ve gathered from those worship leaders. I pray that as you discover how to be effective worship leaders, you will actually be able to apply the things that you’ll learn.

PART I - PREPARE YOURSELF

Tip #1 Theme

On special occasions like church anniversaries and evangelistic crusades, usually, themes are being picked ahead of time. You, as the worship leader, should know the theme of the program so that you can choose songs that are related to the theme. But in simple programs in churches, if there’s no theme, you may choose your own theme. Or, you may just choose songs about worship.

Or, you may ask the speaker of the program about his topic so that you can choose the appropriate songs in relation to his topic.

You may be wondering about the relevance of choosing songs that are related to the topic. Actually, in my own experience, this strategy helps me meditate on the topic more.

For example, the theme is about God’s love. Singing songs about God’s love will help the worshippers think about it, and it will help them prepare themselves to receive the message that will be delivered by the speaker later on.
