Youth Ministry Tips [2/6/11]

YOUTH GROUP

Which is more important to God: the beliefs we hold OR the life we live? 

Move to opposite sides of the room depending on your choice.  Each side has three minutes to come up with the three best reasons for their choice.  After reporting, give both sides an opportunity to rebut the other side’s presentation.  Follow up by having the groups work together to come up with the most important beliefs and the most important things to live out.

SERVICE ACTIVITY

Create a Church Assistance Program service as people arrive at a church function in bad weather.  Have several people well protected with rain coats and large umbrellas.  Escort people from their car or jeep to cover (and keep them covered in route).  If they aren’t accustomed to this they might be suspicious as you first come up to their vehicle.  Be friendly and disarming in providing this service.  Do it after the function, too.

Learning To Receive

It was on Christmas eve, and I was traveling on a bus to my apartment in Cavite–quite sleepy. As the bus was departing a man boarded  and starting singing a Christmas song, it was actually done quite well under the circumstances. He sang solo accompanied by an a egg shaker. After his rendition he passed out some envelops soliciting passengers a donation for the “less fortunate”. After giving a short talk about sharing the blessings with “less fortunate”  saying that those who are fortunate should share with those who have so little, he then walked back down the isle collecting the envelops.  As he was about to step off the bus, he turned around and gave a Thank You, and ended by saying, “It’s better to give than to receive” and because of the giving “you will receive blessings.” 

This all started me to think: “Did this gentleman just pull a guilt-trip on me?” “If I give, will the blessings keep me safe or make my life better?  Have we misunderstood Acts 20:35?” 

 

In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’

DREAM International Creative Ministries (iDREAM) is now celebrating its 3rd Anniversary and we would like to commemorate the day the Lord called us to establish this ministry and reminisce about the ways over the days it has served people in various places. Moreover, we want to rejoice concerning God’s goodness for continuously pouring out His blessings on the ministry and on its members.
